Google Home Hub Announced

This week, Google announced a new Pixel Phone, a new Pixel Tablet, and most relevant to our conversation, the Google Home Hub. It’s available for pre-order at $149 and expects to release October 22nd. Before the Google Home Hub, Google Home users were limited to the JBL Link View, and Lenovo Smart Display each priced at $249.

Overall, the goal is similar to that of Amazon’s Echo Show, to be a front-end screen for your smart home and assistant. Notable differences on the Google Home Hub include:

  • No front camera
  • Comes in 4 different colors
  • Roughly $80 less expensive
  • 7in screen vs. Echo Show’s 10in
  • No Hub Communication vs. Echo Show’s Zigbee Communication

Overall, we weren’t overwhelmed with Google’s Home Hub. Google basically seems like they’re just catching up with this release. Never the less, it’s a beautiful piece of hardware and a welcomed addition to the Google Home Family.

Do you think Apple will step up to the plate and provide a countertop visual assistant?
